Reconstructing the cosmic density field with the distribution of dark matter halos

چکیده
We develop a new method to reconstruct the cosmic density field from the distribution of dark matter haloes above a certain mass threshold. Our motivation is that well-defined samples of galaxy groups/clusters, which can be used to represent the dark halo population, can now be selected from large redshift surveys of galaxies, and our ultimate goal is to use such data to reconstruct the cosmic density field in the local universe. Our reconstruction method starts with a sample of dark matter haloes above a given mass threshold. Each volume element in space is assigned to the domain of the nearest halo according to a distance measure that is scaled by the virial radius of the halo. The distribution of the mass in and around dark matter haloes of a given mass is modelled using the cross-correlation function between dark matter haloes and the mass distribution within their domains. We use N-body cosmological simulations to show that the density profiles required in our reconstruction scheme can be determined reliably from large cosmological simulations, and that our method can reconstruct the density field accurately using haloes with masses down to ∼ 10 hM⊙ (above which samples of galaxy groups can be constructed from current large redshift surveys of galaxies). Working in redshift space, we demonstrate that the redshift distortions due to the peculiar velocities of haloes can be corrected in an iterative way. We also describe some applications of our method. 2 Huiyuan Wang et al.

Reconstructing the Triaxial Shapes of Dark Matter Halos from the Anisotropic Spatial Distributions of their Substructures
We develop an algorithm for reconstructing the triaxial shapes of dark matter halos from the anisotropic spatial distributions of their substructures. First, we construct an analytic model for the anisotropic spatial distributions of dark halo substructures under the assumption that the tidal field with non-zero trace in the triaxial mass distribution of the host halos generate the substructure...
متن کاملGravitational Lensing by Dark Matter Halos with Non-universal Density Profiles
The statistics of gravitational lensing can provide us with a very powerful probe of the mass distribution of matter in the universe. By comparing predicted strong lensing probabilities with observations, we can test the mass distribution of dark matter halos, in particular, the inner density slope. In this letter, unlike previous work that directly models the density profiles of dark matter ha...
متن کاملAn Analytic Model for the Axis-Ratio Distribution of Dark Matter Halos from the Primordial Gaussian Density Field
We present an analytic expression for the axis ratio distributions of triaxial dark matter halos. The ellipticity of a dark halo develops as a consequence of the filamentary nature of the cosmic web induced by the initial coherent tidal interactions. Adopting the picture, we derive both the minor-to-major and the conditional intermediate-to-major axis ratio distributions, and examine how they d...
متن کاملConstraints on the Warm Dark Matter Model from Gravitational Lensing
Formation of sub-galactic halos is suppressed in warm dark matter (WDM) model due to thermal motion of WDM particles. This may provide a natural resolution to some puzzles in standard cold dark matter (CDM) theory such as the cusped density profiles of virialized dark halos and the overabundance of low mass satellites. One of the observational tests of the WDM model is to measure the gravitatio...
متن کاملHalo Formation in Warm Dark Matter Models
Discrepancies have emerged between the predictions of standard cold dark matter (CDM) theory and observations of clustering on sub-galactic scales. Warm dark matter (WDM) is a simple modification of CDM in which the dark matter particles have initial velocities due either to their having decoupled as thermal relics, or having been formed via non-equilibrium decay. We investigate the nonlinear g...
